Shannon Development Targets Italian Tourists

Italian holidaymakers have been targeted by Shannon Development in their latest tourism marketing promotion. In a bid to lure them to the Shannon Region the Development Company recently ( 7th – 9th March ‘06) organised a familiarisation tour in association with Tourism Ireland and Failte Ireland for ten top Italian travel writers.

As part of the tour the group visited county Offaly and stayed at the County Arms Hotel in Birr. They enjoyed a cruise on the Shannon thanks to Silver Line Cruisers in Banagher. They had a tour of Birr Castle Demesne & Ireland's Historic Science. They visited Kinnity Castle Hotel, and enjoyed traditional Irish music in some of the local pubs including the Thatch Bar and Restaurant in Crinkle, Co. Offaly. The group were treated to art lesson at Bramber Studio in Shinrone, Co. Offaly where they learned to paint on silk. They group met with Mid Ireland Tourism for a briefing on the areas tourism products.

We hope that the travel articles which they write will stimulate many Italian tourists to visit the area”, says John King, Heritage and Tourism Director, Shannon Development.
