Shannon Heritage Scoops Excellence Award
Knappogue Mediaeval Banquets, which are held nightly in 15th century Knappogue Castle near Quin in County Clare, has just won a national Special Merit Award of Excellence for their dinner entertainment.
The National Awards of Excellence are sponsored annually by CIE Tours International. The Awards which recognize excellence in all aspects of Irish tourism are now in their 17th year and over the years Shannon Heritage tourism products have been regular Award winners. This year’s Awards were presented by the Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism, Mr. John O’Donoghue, T.D. at a reception in the Four Seasons Hotel, Dublin.
The winners of the National Awards of Excellence are unique, as they are chosen from an independent evaluation by CIE Tours International customers and are designed to acknowledge the high level of service and the warm welcome received by the 44,000 holidaymakers that CIE Tours International brought to Ireland in 2006. Over 25,000 detailed questionnaires were completed and the awards are based on these results.

A main part of our core work is to ensure customer satisfaction, and it is something we prize very highly, and this award recognises the immense effort we put into ensuring that the our customers needs are exceeded”, said Mr. John Ruddle, Chief Executive, Shannon Heritage.

As the Regional Tourism Authority Awards like these help us in our bid to attract additional visitors to the Shannon Region, by raising the profile of the Shannon Region as a superb tourist destination In addition to the Knappogue Castle Award here in the Shannon Region, Dromoland Castle are also to be commended as they won the national CIE Excellence Award for Best Hotel Service,” said Mr. John King, Director of Tourism and Heritage, Shannon Development.
