Free Tidy Towns Seminar to highlight ways of improving grades

To kick start the 2008 National Tidy Towns Competition in Tipperary, Shannon Development and North Tipperary Co. Council are inviting Tidy Towns Committees throughout the County, to attend an information seminar to help improve their participation, and chances of victory in Ireland’s biggest environmental competition. The event will take place at 7.00 pm on Wednesday 19th March ’08 at the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary.

Eanna Ní Lamhna, well known RTE broadcaster on wildlife and environmental issues and President of An Taisce, is set to speak at the event to lend her support. Speaking about the importance of the National Tidy Towns Competition, John King, Heritage and Tourism Director, Shannon Development said, “The fact that the National Tidy Towns Competition is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year speaks volumes about national pride and true community spirit. Year after year legions of dedicated Tidy Towns Committees around Tipperary turn out to play their part in maintaining and enhancing their environment.  These dedicated groups of people deserve the highest praise, not only for what they themselves do for their communities, but for instilling that same spirit into the younger generation”.
