Minister Hoctor opens €3 million Roscrea Business & Technology Park which has the potential to create 1,000 new jobs

A new €3 million Business and Technology Park with the potential to create 1,000 new jobs was officially opened in Roscrea today (Monday 19th May ’08) by  Máire Hoctor T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children.

Roscrea Business and Technology Park is a Shannon Development project and the Company invested €3 million in the acquisition and development of the land necessary for the Park. The Park is situated in a prime location at Benamore, on the Dublin side of Roscrea. A programme of infrastructural and landscaping work has just been completed to make this prime 26 acres development site ready to promote to industrialists.

“With the potential to create up to 1,000 new jobs, Roscrea Business and Technology Park will be a major asset in our industry infrastructure for many years to come. This new business park, combined with Birr Technology Centre, Tipperary Technology Park in Thurles, and the other network of business parks already established by Shannon Development, is tangible evidence of the Company’s commitment to drive economic growth in Roscrea and the whole North Tipperary and Offaly area. Roscrea Business and Technology Park is a perfect example of the ideal Business Park location in that it provides the facilities, visibility and access which business people are always looking for, and is situated in a prime location,” said Minister Hoctor.

Shannon Development has just produced a new marketing brochure for the site which it will now actively market in conjunction with their colleagues in IDA and Enterprise Ireland. The new brochure highlights the attractiveness of the Park and lists its unique qualities and characteristics which Shannon Development believes will offer an attractive proposition to companies considering relocating or investing in Ireland. The Park will be promoted to industrialists in various sectors, including mobile and foreign direct investment, logistics, technology, office development and decentralisation projects.

Speaking at the event Kevin Thompstone, Chief Executive Shannon Development said,

“Roscrea Business and Technology Park is another jewel in North Tipperary’s industrial crown and an additiaonl asset in our constant quest to provide top quality tailor made property solutions to entice investors to this area. This growing cluster of 5 business parks which we have created around the Shannon Region provide a variety of innovative top class property options to suit all requirements of overseas and indigenous businesses.”

Roscrea Business & Technology Park is part Shannon Development’s overall development strategy which the Company is working to deliver around North Tipperary and the Shannon Region. To make the area as attractive as possible to potential investors, Shannon Development in partnership with Tipperary County Council and co-funded by Government, has recently completed laying fibre optic cable around Roscrea to make it attractive and feasible for licensed operators to offer the latest broadband services to businesses, commercial interests, public services and other users.

Though Shannon Broadband, the Shannon Development company established in partnership with Shannon Region local authorities and supported by Government, eight towns around the Shannon Region (including Nenagh, Templemore, Birr and Banagher)  and Limerick City have seen an invested of almost €20 million in the delivery of 100km of open access broadband infrastructure.

“Among the reasons why we believe industrialists will be attracted to the Roscrea area and to Roscrea Business and Technology Park include the exceptional quality of life, clean environment, minimised traffic problems, lack of congestion and affordable housing in comparison with other urban centres,” Mr. Thompstone concluded.
