Kathryn Thomas, the RTE’s ‘No Frontiers’ holiday programme presenter was in Limerick this week filming the city and surround area for a tourism feature for the new series of the programme which will run from January to April next year.
Holidays in Limerick are expected to get a boost as a result of the programme which will feature accommodation, spa, shopping, culture visitor attractions and sporting facilities in Limerick including the new Thomond Park and soaking up the rugby atmosphere. The top Irish TV travel show which is produced for RTE by Frontier Films, is now in its 11th year and attracts over half a million viewers from all round Ireland. The programme can also be viewed on the RTE website and has a huge website following.
The film shoot was secured for Limerick by Shannon Development who made a successful pitch to the programme producer earlier this year and subsequently organised the itinerary to suit the crew’s filming schedule. The Limerick shoot will involve a number of visits to the city to capture various elements. The feature will focus on Limerick ’s appeal as a city breaks destination. Last year Shannon Development co-ordinated a successful family holiday feature on ‘No Frontiers’ which featured well known presenter and journalist Fiona Looney and her family enjoying a family holiday in Lahinch, Co. Clare.
“We are delighted to have been able to play our part in this exciting opportunity for Limerick City . It is the first time that Limerick has been featured on the programme and we are confident that it will boost visitor numbers,” says Olivia Loughnane, Shannon Development Director of Research and Communications.
A crowning moment…
(L-r) RTE presenter Kathryn Thomas took time out of her filming schedule in Limerick City to meet King John with Olivia Loughnane from Shannon Development at King John’s Castle.
