Shannon Development Warmly Welcomes Launch of Draft Plan by Limerick Regeneration Agencies

Shannon Development today warmly welcomed the presentation of the draft masterplans for the comprehensive regeneration of Moyross / Southill / St Mary's Park, on the Northside and Southside of Limerick City, by the Limerick Regeneration Agencies. Welcoming the publication of the Draft Masterplans, Dr Vincent Cunnane, Chief Executive, Shannon Development, expressed “the strong support of Shannon Development for the work of the Regeneration Agency to date, and particularly for the work the Regeneration Agencies will carry out over the next ten years”.

Dr Cunnane said “Shannon Development is committed to ensuring that Limerick is a strong centre at the heart of a strong Shannon Region, and we will be working very closely with the Regeneration Agencies to ensure that all parts of Limerick benefit from the economic development programmes that we will be bringing to bear in the areas in question. Shannon Development continues to have a very close working relationship with the Regeneration Agencies, and we are committed to standing shoulder to shoulder with them in delivering projects on the ground, in what is undoubtedly one of the most important initiatives in the city’s history.  We will work to ensure that the regenerated areas of Limerick City will make a strong contribution to the overall economic growth of Limerick and in turn the Region. We are very excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and we are very pleased to be partnering with the Regeneration Agencies in their vital work”.

Dr Cunnane announced that Shannon Development, supported by Shannon Broadband, has agreed to be the lead partner in the delivery of broadband in the Limerick regeneration areas, and in the delivery of a programme of content initiatives to support such areas as education, youth development, security, entertainment, health and business development. Shannon Development will also utilise its existing land and property in the regeneration areas to provide business locations, particularly for the growth and development of locally owned start up businesses.  As the Regional Tourism Agency, Shannon Development will also work closely with the Regeneration Agency on the development of initiatives, with particular emphasis on St Mary's Park and the adjacent Nicholas St. Shannon Development will also support the Regeneration Agencies using other key programmes as the need and opportunity arises.

Eoghan Prendergast, Shannon Development’s Regional Development Manager for Limerick City also welcomed the Regeneration Agencies masterplans. Mr Prendergast said “Shannon Development’s earliest involvement in Southill was with the development of the Galvone Industrial Estate in the 1970’s, and we built the first small industrial units in Moyross in the early 1980’s, and we were subsequently involved in the Community Enterprise Centres in each area.  We know the areas in question well, and we are eagerly looking forward to renewing our involvement in delivering real projects that are focused on and involve the communities in the areas covered by the masterplans. We will be working to help give confidence to investors, by providing attractive and modern business space in which to locate. We will also be working hard to ensure that business investment in the regeneration areas will provide locally staffed jobs including in locally owned businesses”.
