“The response has been phenomenal and we have visitors coming from all over Ireland to enjoy our Santa Experience. We are particularly delighted that these additional visitors are giving a much needed boost to local businesses in the area. We know from our booking office that many of our visitors are coming from all parts of Ireland and that they are staying overnight in Clare and making a shopping trip of it as well. Our Santa experience is actually sold out, in fact we have 500 families on a cancellation waiting list,” says John Ruddle, Chief Executive, Shannon Heritage, the Shannon Development tourism subsidiary company who manage Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and a range of other day visitor attractions and evening entertainments around the Shannon Region.
As part of the Santa experience, Santa, Mrs. Claus, a troupe of Elves and a host of other Christmas characters are among the special visitors to Bunratty Folk Park, in the lead up to Christmas. This event began operating on December 4th and will run up to December 22nd ’08 (inclusive). Visitors to Bunratty can experience a magical, festive atmosphere in a unique and traditional village street setting at Bunratty Folk Park.
“Our event is proving so popular that we have decided to open it up for people to come and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere in our Santa village, the storytelling, for €5 per head. They won’t be able to see Santa but they can enjoy the range of other activities. They can visit Santa Claus & his Elves in the school house. They can also call in to see Mrs. Claus in her Kitchen as she prepares for Santa's trip - making sure his clothes are ironed and he has plenty of food for his journey. There is an opportunity to listen to the Folk Park story teller as he recalls colourful tales of Christmas long ago,” said Mr. Ruddle.
The village street has been decked with holly, and festooned with fairy lights, and the village Christmas tree adorned for the occasion. The young and not so young are being treated to a puppet show and they can join in the fun by chatting to the surprise Christmas Characters who wander the village street, you might even bump into Scrooge, the Charles Dickens classic character, during your visit. Christmas themed shops selling Christmas fare will ensure that visitors can get in a bit of last minute shopping!
