There will be no school holiday this St. Patrick’s Day for students at the village school Bunratty, Co. Clare, in fact the school day has been extended to run until 5.00 pm on the 17th March.
Commenting on the unusual event, the school’s headmaster Mike Glynn said that he can guarantee that the school will be full of smiling happy students on the day.
The school in question is situated in the village street at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. All students attending school that day in the Folk Park’s replica schoolhouse will be voluntary. The event is being organised by Shannon Heritage as part of a new St. Patrick’s Day celebrations at the top visitor attraction.
“We wanted to organise an event to give people another entertainment choice to enjoy after their local parade finishes. A full programme of activities and events has been organised for the afternoon. This new event complements our annual calendar of events designed especially for the domestic market in response to customer requests. Among other events we run during the year are, an Easter egg hunt, a medieval festival, a traditional harvest festival, a Halloween event, and the Santa experience at Christmas,” says John Ruddle, Chief Executive, Shannon Heritage.
As part of the fun packed St. Partrick’s Day event at Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Shannon Heritage has organised a guest appearance by St. Patrick and his merry band of Leprechauns. St. Patrick will even bring along some snakes for people to have a look at. To mark the national holiday the village school teacher will give fun Irish language classes at the 19th century themed school house. There will be a live performance of Bunratty’s renowned Traditional Irish Night entertainers, with two shows starting at 2.00 pm and 4.00 pm.
