Foynes Flying Boat Museum to Feature on Major US TV programme

US Celebrity Chef Mr. Food Visits Limerick

A US celebrity chef, Art Ginsburg known as ‘Mr. Food’, travelled to Foynes Flying Boat Museum, Co. Limerick today to film segments for his popular food and travelogue TV shoot.

A household name is the United States, the Mr. Food programme is syndicated around the U.S. to over 300 television stations where it is part of daily news programmes which go out around the county. Almost 4 million viewers tune into the popular show daily. This is Mr. Food’s first visit to Ireland, and his fame preceded him when on arrival at Shannon Airport, US fans recognised him and recited his programme catch phrase “OOH IT’S SO GOOD!!”

The trip was organised by Tourism Ireland New York and co-ordinated in the Shannon Region by Shannon Development. Mr. Food is also doing TV features in Dromoland Castle, and the Burren Smokehouse in Co. Clare, and Larkin’s Pub in Garrykennedy, Co. Tipperary.

Speaking about the importance of the visit Eoghan Prendergast, Shannon Development Manager, Limerick Development (City and County) said, “Mr. Food is an iconic character in the US, his programme has been running there for over 30 years. To have him featuring two programme segments from Limerick is fantastic and we are delighted to be assisting him during his Shannon Region stay.”

Welcoming Mr. Food to Limerick Margaret O’ Shaughnessy, Director of Foynes Flying Boat Museum said, “We are thrilled to have such a prestigious TV personality coming Foynes Flying Boat Museum. He is featuring the story of the Irish coffee which will brand this area in this very special year for the Museum which is marks the 70th anniversary of the first flight between the US and the Shannon Region with a major festival planned for the 6th-12th July. He is also doing a segment on the origin of the ‘Limerick’ verse and we made up a verse to say on air especially for the programme.”

“The World renowned Chef Mr. Food
Sought a Region with attitude
On the Shannon’s green bank
Irish coffee he drank
Exclaiming “OOH IT’S SO GOOD!!”
