Board Appointments at Shannon Development

Ms Mary Coughlan TD, Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, has today (12th May 2009) re-appointed Cllr John Brassil as a Boardmember and Chairman of Shannon Development.  Cllr Brassil, from Ballyheigue, County Kerry, is a qualified civil engineer and pharmacist.  He has been an elected member of Kerry County Council since 1999 and a member of the Shannon Development Board since 2004.

The Tanaiste also re-appointed Mr Bob Keane, Principal Officer, Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment, to the Board of Shannon Development.

Speaking after his re-appointment, Cllr Brassil, said “I am delighted to have been re-appointed Chairman of Shannon Development by the Tanaiste, Mary Coughlan TD.  I look forward to continuing to work with the board members, management, and staff, of Shannon Development in driving forward the regional development agenda in the Shannon Region over the coming years”.

Note to Editors: Biographical Note on Cllr John Brassil

Cllr John Brassil is a native of Ballyheigue, County Kerry, and is 46 years of age. He is married to Bernadette and they have three children.  Cllr Brassil graduated from University College Cork as a civil engineer in 1985 and worked for over 15 years in the construction industry in Ireland and in the UK. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin as a pharmacist in 1999, and since then has run the family pharmacy business in Ballyheigue, Co Kerry.  Cllr Brassil was first elected to Kerry County Council in 1999 and was re-elected in 2004.  His leisure interests include rugby and gaelic football.
