Shannon Development to sponsor Limerick’s Street Ambassadors
Shannon Development has announced its sponsorship of Limerick’s pioneering Street Ambassador programme which will see Limerick’s roving tourist guides back on the Streets of Limerick during the winter period.
Dressed in Munster red, the Street Ambassadors will once again be a familiar and welcome sight on the streets of Limerick following their successful summer season when they helped almost 13,000 visitors to the Riverside City. The winter programme will operate on a pilot basis to coincide with major events such as Georgian Christmas Market, shopping and rugby games.
Announcing their support for the programme Eoghan Prendergast, Shannon Development's Limerick Development Division Manager said, “Limerick Street Ambassadors do a wonderful job and we are delighted to be extending our sponsorship, and reinstate the programme in the run up to the Christmas shopping season and major sporting events during winter.”
The extended programme will see the 12 Street Ambassadors lending their support for events that attract tourists to the city such as, the Heineken Cup and Magners League Games, Winterfest, the Georgian Christmas Market and the main shopping weekends up to Christmas.
“Limerick is a wonderful holiday destination, and as the tourism authority for the Shannon Region we have intensified our efforts to get our tourism message to a national and international audience. The Limerick Street Ambassador’s programme complements Shannon Development’s ongoing tourism marketing campaign for Limerick, aimed at attracting additional visitors to the City year round,” said Pat Daly, Tourism & Marketing Division Manager, Shannon Development.
The role of the Street Ambassadors will, once again, be to provide a friendly first impression to tourists visiting Limerick and advise them on the best places to visit, eat and shop. They will be also be distributing the new Limerick tourism Z Map which is a guide to what to do in Limerick city.
