Shannon Development is launching a major tourism marketing campaign to boost the number of holidaymakers taking part in activity and adventure holidays in the Shannon Region.
They will launch their campaign this weekend at ‘Top Gear Live’ in the RDS Dublin which runs from 3rd – 6th December ‘09. Top Gear’s Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May and the Stig are expected to attract over 55,000 people throughout the four day event.
“The popularity of activity and adventure holidays continues to grow and the Shannon Region boasts a superb range of adventure activities, from surfing, wakeboarding, power boating, to mountain biking, cruising, and skydiving. The hugely popular ‘Top Gear Live’ event, which attracts a thrill seeking, adventure loving audience, is the ideal vehicle at which to showcase the Shannon Region activity product,” said Aisling Travers, Shannon Development Tourism Marketing Executive.
Commenting on the significance of this business sector, Ms. Travers said, “Activity tourism is worth an estimated €1.2 billion to the Irish economy annually. The domestic market dominates the sector at 71% overall market share. Activity tourists tend to stay longer than general tourists and the average spend of overseas visitors engaged in activities is 38% higher than general overseas visitors. We will be backing our campaign with radio, print, and online promotion.”
To increase the region’s market share of this lucrative business, Shannon Development, the tourism authority for the Shannon Region, will launch a new activity and adventure guide at Top Gear Live. The full colour 64 page comprehensive guide contains information on a range of action packed adventure holidays in the Shannon Region. Among the activities highlighted are water based activities, cycling, equestrian, golf, walking, special interest and adventure based holidays. The new guide will be available from tourist information offices around the Shannon Region, and will be part of home and overseas tourism marketing promotions. It can also be downloaded from www.shortbreaksireland.ie
