“We are delighted with the news that Limerick will be the location for the 2010 National Lottery Skyfest on the 13th March next. The Skyfest fireworks display is one of the largest and most spectacular events in the Irish outdoor event calendar. Just to illustrate the magnitude of the event, it takes a crew of almost 30 people over 6 days to set almost 3 tonnes of fireworks. The wonderful spectacle will be a tremendous event for people of the City,” says Pat Daly, Tourism and Marketing Manager, Shannon Development.
“As the tourism authority for the Shannon Region, Shannon Development is actively working with the organisers to maximise visitor numbers and the economic benefits of the area. We are also working to ensure that it generates a positive image of the city as a tourism destination. The fact that it will be televised will provide an additional boost for city and will give us another opportunity to show case Limerick. We are delighted that we could facilitate the Skyfest organisers by offering the use of King John’s Castle as one of the centres for the launching of the fireworks. This is one of a series of high profile events which Limerick and the Shannon Region is hosting this year, among other major events are the Special Olympics, the JP McManus Pro Am and the Great Limerick Run and all the other sporting event and festivals,” he said.
