RTE’s Ryan Tubridy was in the County Clare village of Cooraclare today (Wednesday 23rd March 2010) for an outside broadcast from Tubridy’s Bar and Restaurant.
Among the guests were; Muiris O Rócháin from the Willie Clancy Summer School, RTE sports presenter Marty Morrissey, young rising singing star Ben Escorcio a finalist in the All Ireland Talent Show, and Clare Champion journalist Peter O’Connell. The one hour show featured Clare musicians, Clare sports personalities including a phone link with Killaloe based Keith Wood. The curator of the Clare County Museum John Rattigan was also interviewed.
To promote County Clare as a holiday destination, Shannon Development organised a holiday prize for one lucky Tubridy show listener courtesy of the 5* Lodge at Doonbeg Golf Club. The prize included two nights accommodation for two people in an ocean view suite, a round of golf at the famous Greg Norman designed golf course, and a pampering session at the Lodge’s White Horses Spa. The winner will also enjoy a dolphin watching trip for two from Kilrush Creek Marina; their choice of a mediaeval banquet at Bunratty, Knappogue or Dunguaire Castles, or a Traditional Irish Night at Bunratty Folk Park. The prize also included free admission to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and a visitor pass to the Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre.
Speaking about the value of the programme Siobhan King, Shannon Development Tourism Officer County Clare said, “We were delighted to assist the programme producers with their outside broadcast. Over 350,000 people listen to the Tubridy Radio show and it was a great opportunity to promote Clare’s rich music heritage, its sporting prowess, and the wonderful warmth of its people to a national audience. We would be confident that the show will draw additional domestic visitors to the area.”
