Minister O'Keeffe Opens New €3.6m Building at Tipperary Technology Park

The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation, Batt O’Keeffe TD, today (Thursday, 3rd June, 2010) offically opened a new €3.6 million building expansion at Shannon Development’s Tipperary Technology Park in Thurles.

The new building, Innovation Works 3, is the third building at Tipperary Technology Park and brings total investment by Shannon Development at the Park to €7.4 million.

Innovation Works 3 comprises a 21,500 sq. ft. 2-storey office building and associated site works including an increase to the existing car parking area. Total industrial space at the Park is now over 45,000 sq ft.

Speaking at the event, Minister O’Keeffe said; ‘This new facility sends a clear signal to entrepreneurs and potential investors that Ireland is open for business, and reaffirms Government commitment to the economic development of Thurles and North Tipperary.

‘In the current economic climate it is heartening to see green shoots of economic renewal. The new building at Tipperary Technology Park has been developed in direct response to demand for additional industrial space, and this is very encouraging.

‘This new state-of-the art building is the kind of infrastructure that will give us a competitive edge in our bid to win new business in an increasingly competitive environment. The marketing of the new building at the Park will be undertaken by Shannon Development in conjunction with Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland,” added the Minister.

Dr. Vincent Cunnane, Chief Executive, Shannon Development said; “Ireland must be ready to seize every business opportunity it can. To do this it is crucial we have a variety of business accommodation readily available to stimulate interest and meet demand.

‘Shannon Development has a total of 57 business and technology parks and industrial estates around the Shannon Region. By having a property portfolio which includes a variety of available space, from turn-key state of the art office accommodation, to distribution/warehousing and incubation space, the demands of both local and international interest can be met.”

“Tipperary Technology Park is home to a number of inward investment projects, and has a core facility for incubating and growing new Irish technology companies. Clients range from those operating in the cutting edge sphere of nano-biomaterials, to clients in digital cinema and the international services sector,” said Brian Keating, Shannon Development, Regional Development Manager, North Tipperary & South Offaly.

The official opening of the new Park building was followed by a ‘Thurles Showcase’ event featuring Sean Gallagher, star of the hit TV series Dragon’s Den, who provided motivational insights on how to become a successful entrepreneur.  Organised by Shannon Development and Thurles Marketing Group, the Showcase was designed to highlight Thurles as a superb location for entrepreneurship in both tourism and business.
